D8.3 – Ethics Requirement

Deliverable 8.3 establishes a preliminary ethical framework for ACCOMPLISH, an EU-funded project leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data to automate and streamline regulatory compliance for enterprises. While the project is identified as having a relatively low-risk profile—primarily because it does not target the general public—this document proactively addresses potential concerns regarding personal data processing and the risks of AI-driven assessments.

Key components of this deliverable include:

  • Ethical Framework and Governance: Links project activities to EU policy goals (e.g., the EU’s Data Strategy) and outlines compliance with Horizon Europe’s binding and non-binding ethical instruments.
  • Ethics Advisory Board (EAB): Details the composition and role of the EAB, a group of intra-consortium experts tasked with continuous monitoring and consultation on legal and ethical issues throughout the project’s lifecycle.
  • Layered Ethical Approach: Distinguishes between ethical considerations at the technology design level (e.g., privacy-by-design, explainable AI, and user-centricity) and piloting activities within four specific sector demonstrators: Energy, Automotive, Robotics & Manufacturing, and Aviation.
  • Preliminary Recommendations: Suggests essential safeguards, such as conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA) and Fundamental Rights Impact Assessments, and mandates the use of synthetic data unless the processing of real personal data is strictly justified.

Although D8.3 has no follow-up versions, the identified ethical requirements will be integrated into future technical and evaluation deliverables to ensure ongoing alignment with European ethical values.
