Demonstrators

Energy

The Energy demonstrator focuses on the proactive and flexibility-aware management of the electricity network

The main actors involved are:

  • HEDNO (Distribution System Operator – DSO): Focuses on ensuring the resilient operation of their grid by utilizing flexibility resources.
  • CoEn (Local Energy Community) & IGM (Building Portfolio Manager): Act as providers of aggregated flexibility from prosumers and buildings.
  • RAE (Greek Regulatory Authority for Energy): Responsible for assessing the applicability of EU data and AI regulations within the energy context and shaping recommendations for regulatory harmonization.

This demonstrator will enable a more resilient electricity grid operation through the utilization of demand-side flexibility, while also providing a roadmap for aligning energy market regulations with EU data and AI governance frameworks.

Automotive

The Automotive demonstrator enhances in-vehicle cabin understanding through advanced AI and camera-based analysis to improve safety in both manual and automated driving. The core emphasis is on a more comprehensive awareness of the driver and the cabin environment.

The key players are:

  • VIF: A European automotive research institute providing expertise in driver monitoring and AI-based safety approaches.
  • E3D: A technology developer specializing in computer vision and machine learning software for in-cabin environment analysis.
  • TOFAS: A passenger vehicle manufacturer (part of Stellantis) contributing their vehicle manufacturing capabilities and focus on Fiat family cars.
  • MAN-TR: A major bus and truck manufacturer, bringing their specific vehicle and safety considerations for commercial vehicles.

The demonstrator aims to deliver improved safety for occupants in various vehicle types (passenger cars and commercial vehicles) and driving modes (manual and automated). This is achieved by enabling a deeper understanding of the in-cabin situation, which can lead to more effective driver assistance systems, enhanced safety features, and potentially smoother transitions between manual and automated driving.

Robotics & Manufacturing

The core focus of the Robotics & Manufacturing demonstrator is on improving ergonomics and facilitating job rotation within the robotics and manufacturing sector, specifically aiming to increase the employability of people with disabilities and enhance the health conditions of all workers.

The main actors involved are:

  • BEKO Europe: Beko Europe is a major home appliance company focused on improving customers’ lives with a variety of innovative and eco-friendly products.
  • POLIMI (Politecnico di Milano): A research and technology transfer organization involved in defining and implementing data/AI operations and mapping workplaces.
  • CEFRIEL: Another research and technology transfer organization collaborating with POLIMI on data/AI ops and workforce assignment requirements.

The impact for workers will be an increased employability (especially for those with disabilities), improved health and safety through better ergonomic conditions and job rotation tailored to their needs. Manufacturing companies like Whirlpool will be able to use the ACCOMPLISH platform for compliant management of health and production data, potentially leading to improved inclusiveness and maintained or even improved productivity.

Aviation

The Aviation demonstrator focuses on airport management within a complex and highly regulated environment.

The key actors involved are:

  • SACBO (Bergamo Airport manager): Responsible for overall data management, IT systems, internal and external information exchange, and regulatory compliance (GDPR, EASA, ICAO, ENAC).
  • Internal SACBO departments: Operations, strategy, and training.
  • BGY International Services Srl (handler): Subcontractor of SACBO.
  • TXT (digital external provider): Existing provider of AI-based digital services and digital training services using airport data.
  • DBL: Supports ethical and human factor aspects, particularly concerning training data.

The primary benefit provided is enabling secure and compliant data sharing among different actors and with AI-based services, mixing technical and personal (passenger) data. This aims to support daily airport operations and data management within the COMPAID-X framework.
