BERGAMO, ITALY – February 4, 2026 – Following our successful session at the Beko Europe facilities, the ACCOMPLISH project moved its focus to the skies. Partners gathered at Milan Bergamo Airport (BGY) for an in-person workshop hosted by SACBO S.p.A. (Società per l’Aeroporto Civile di Bergamo-Orio al Serio), the operating authority for Italy’s third busiest airport.
As a leading partner in ACCOMPLISH, SACBO is at the helm of the Aviation Demonstrator Hub. This hub leverages SACBO’s extensive expertise in airport infrastructure and coordination of all airport operators to pilot innovative solutions in a live, high-stakes aviation environment.
Focusing on Pillar 2: Real-Time Operational Intelligence
The Bergamo workshop specifically targeted Pillar 2 of the aviation use case: the optimization of Passengers with Reduced Mobility (PRM) management through a Digital Twin-integrated AI model.
Currently, PRM assistance is a highly manual process. While IT tools exist to reduce workload, there is no real-time AI to monitor flight statuses or PRM presence. Resource allocation—specifically the dispatching of drivers for Ambulift missions (specialized boarding vehicles)—currently relies on static rotation matrices and staff experience rather than automated, data-driven intelligence.
The “To-Be” Vision for Pillar 2 includes:
- Predictive Presence: An AI system to estimate and predict PRM arrivals and flight details.
- Automated Allocation: Optimizing the dispatch of operators, vehicles (Ambulifts), and equipment.
- Near-Real-Time Data: Operating with an information latency of approximately 10 seconds to ensure responsiveness.
- Compliance-by-Design: Ensuring PRM personal data (particularly special categories) is handled securely and remains inaccessible to unauthorized third parties and facilitate audit via document management.
Measuring Value Through Real Metrics
- Building on the methodology established during the Rome General Assembly the team focused on refining the use case and understand the potential KPIs for measuring the baseline. We visited onsite the different steps and process that BGY airport follows for PRM and then we identified a series of KPI to measure, against the future release of ACCOMPLISH (e.g. Reduction in handling costs for PRM resource allocation; Reduction in PRM boarding and deboarding times; Decreasing flight delays specifically related to PRM management etc.)
As we move forward, the computational capacity and information latency will be further assessed to ensure the ACCOMPLISH platform can meet the rigorous real-time demands of an international airport hub.
